Entering a maximum value would cause a Haas indexer to Alarm, Feedhold, or Beep, depending on its setting Tool Overload Action. This standard control feature can help prevent damage through tool failures, unexpected material differences, or programming errors. With the release of the 9.43 software, however, HAAS enhanced this feature further with the inclusion of Autofeed.
Autofeed is a function that limits the feed rate automatically, based on the tool load.
To use the feature, select AUTOFEED in Setting 84 and specify load limits for the tools. If the tool load exceeds the tool load limit during a feed, the feature will override the feed rate automatically. The feature will reduce the feed rate down to the percentage specified by parameter 301 at the rate specified by parameter 300. Parameter 301 AUTOFEED-MIN-LIMIT specifies the minimum allowable feed rate override percentage that the feature can use, while parameter 300 AUTOFEED-STEP-DOWN specifies the feed rate step-down percentage per second.
If the tool load falls below 95% of the tool load limit percentage, the feature will override the feed rate automatically. It will increase it back to the feed rate that was in effect at the start of the feed at the rate specified by parameter 299. Parameter 299 AUTOFEED-STEP-UP specifies the feed rate step-down percentage per second.
Both automatic adjustments will be in effect at 0.1-second increments.
Additional notes and guidelines:
- The feature is ineffective during tapping, as the feed and spindle overrides are locked out.
- Do not use the feature when doing thread milling or using auto reversing tapping heads.
- The end of program execution restores the last commanded feed rate. Pressing RESET or turning off AUTOFEED also restores the last commanded feed rate.
From the introduction of the first control for Haas indexer models, there has been a provision for the tool load monitoring, with facilities for operators to set a limit for each tool. The release of the 9.43 software enhanced this provision further and made the models more intuitive, providing operators with premium functionality.
