It’s official – the four time Ballon d’Or winner and Barcelona player Lionel Messi is not for sale. This is according to the club president, Josep Maria Bartomeu who has yet to give a timescale for when a new contract will be agreed upon.
Number one in the world
In an interview, Bartomeu said that, “We cannot say when it’s going to happen because when we do things with our players we try to keep as much confidence as possible.”
“What I can say is that we want Messi to be here, he is number one in the world. We need him to be happy and he is very happy in the city of Barcelona, in our club,” he added.
On the other hand, Barca’s recent signing from Brazil, Neymar, is reported to be focused on returning to fitness. The purchase has become controversial as allegation of funds embezzlement were held against the former president, Sando Rosell, who resigned last month.
“He is okay and he’s really anxious to get back playing,” Bartomeu said. “He was injured a few weeks ago and we hope in the coming days he will appear again and play.”
